Retinoblastoma is the most common eye cancer diagnosed in children under the age of 5. And while a childhood cancer diagnosis is scary, of course, nearly all children with retinoblastoma can live long, healthy lives if the disease is diagnosed and treated early.
At Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, our priorities are to save lives, save eyes and preserve the patient’s vision as much as possible.
Huge leaps have been made in the diagnosis and treatment of retinoblastoma in the last decade. We are one of a handful of children’s hospitals around the country to use innovative diagnostic methods to detect retinoblastoma earlier than ever before. After diagnosis, our world-class oncologists, pediatricians, radiologists and ophthalmologists work together to create the most effective and targeted treatment plan with the fewest possible side effects for each pediatric eye cancer patient. Our multidisciplinary team of experts collaborate to manage and direct care for our pediatric patients with the utmost concern for providing safe and effective care.
We are one of the few centers on the West Coast with dedicated pediatric eye cancer specialists. Our team includes experts who have more than 20 years of experience treating retinoblastoma using cutting-edge treatments like intra-arterial chemotherapy, which reduces the side effects of traditional chemotherapy.
