Heart transplant and VAD outcomes and volumes
We are proud to offer outcomes that place us in the top tier of pediatric heart transplant and VAD programs across the nation and world.
Highlights
- At Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, we’ve performed 500+ pediatric heart transplants to date. We are consistently among the highest-volume programs in the nation for heart transplants, and we perform the most pediatric heart transplants in California, having done so for nine recent years in a row.
- We’re extremely proud of our exceptional outcomes, among the best in the nation. We achieve over 94% heart transplant survival rates after one year, and a high number of children in our care remain in good health after five years, despite our taking on some of the toughest cases.
- When it comes to VADs, Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center’s Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Therapies (PACT) program is one of the highest-volume pediatric programs in the United States and a national pioneer of innovative uses of VADs to save lives. For example, we achieved 100% survival of highly complex single ventricle patients awaiting transplant who were bridged with a VAD in a recent year. To date, we have placed 200+ VADs.
