Getting started

Coverage for your care is determined by your insurance company and is based on the provisions of your specific plan. Visit our Insurance Information page to ensure that your health care coverage includes Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, or contact your insurance company directly prior to your visit to verify.

To transfer medical records to your new doctor’s office, contact your new office and request a release of health information form.

Selecting a doctor

Scheduling your first appointment

Be sure to have your health plan information available. If we can’t fit you in on the day of your choice, we may offer you an appointment with another doctor in the same office or refer you to one of our other Bay Area locations.

Virtual visits

We offer virtual visits and in-person visits at over 65 locations, conveniently located all across the Bay Area, to make it easy to see world-class pediatricians and specialists. To get started, talk with your provider’s office to see if you’re a good candidate for virtual visits.

After-Hours Virtual Care

For pediatric patients, your pediatrician's office should be your first choice for in-person or virtual care, After-Hours Virtual Care is a convenient way to speak with a Stanford Medicine Children’s Health pediatrician outside of normal business hours. MyChart

MyChart is your secure online health connection that lets you make appointments, send messages and view test results from anywhere. If you haven’t signed up yet, please contact your office or visit mychart.stanfordchildrens.org to sign up.

What to expect at your first visit

We recommend arriving early to your first visit to complete any forms and ensure that you have plenty of time to get to know our doctors and staff. During your initial appointment, we will explain everything in detail and answer any questions you may have.

What to bring to your first visit

  • Health insurance card.
  • Completed new-patient forms, such as child and family medical history.
  • Insurance authorization, if required.
  • Doctor’s referral, if required.
  • List of prescription medications, dosages and allergies.
  • Recent test results.
  • List of questions.
  • Device or paper for taking notes.
