Scheduled Cesarean Delivery Patient Instructions

Pre-op visit

Before visit

  • Call Labor and Delivery to confirm your appointment: (650) 723-5403.

During visit

  • Park your car at the LPCH parking lot using the free valet service (see map).
  • Go directly to Labor & Delivery on the 2nd floor for check in.
  • You will be seen by an anesthesiologist and nurse to discuss the plan of care and answer any questions that you may have.
  • You will have lab work drawn during your visit.

  • You will receive instructions and supplies at your pre-operative visit on Labor & Delivery for bathing and skin care for the night before cesarean delivery.

Night before cesarean delivery

  • DO NOT eat or drink anything (not even water) after midnight (12am).
  • Follow instructions for bathing and skin care (CHG wipes) that you received at your pre-operative visit on Labor & Delivery.

Morning of cesarean delivery

At home

  • DO NOT eat or drink anything (not even water).
    • Medications may be taken with a small sip of water.
    • You may brush your teeth but do not swallow any water.
  • DO NOT shave your abdomen or your pubic area.

Parking & check-in

  • Please allow ample time for traffic and parking so that we can start your surgery on time. Due to our current construction, travel time may take longer than usual.
  • Park your car at the hospital parking lot using the free valet service (see map).
  • Go directly to Labor & Delivery on the 2nd floor for check in.
