Neuro-Ophthalmology

US News - Stanford Medicine Children's HealthFor many children with vision-related diseases, the root of the disorder may go beyond the eyes into the network of nerves and cells that transmits information to and from the brain and spinal cord, or the nervous system. The Neuro-Ophthalmology Clinic at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health is one of the few pediatric clinics that combines neurology, or the medical study of this system, and ophthalmology, which deals with disorders of the eye.

We provide care for children with loss of vision, double vision, eye movement abnormalities, infection, inflammation and other conditions. In addition to comprehensive clinical assessments of visual acuity, we provide state-of-the-art clinical testing of the nerve of each eye. We also work to enhance public awareness of neuro-ophthalmologic diseases through a vibrant education and research program. As a result of this Neuro-Ophthalmology program, we are often able to provide access to cutting-edge clinical trials.
