The Bingham family’s journey
MSNBC presented the family's personal and medical journey in a recent documentary called "Heartbreak: Saving the Binghams."
Stacy and Jason Bingham of North Powder, Oregon, have five beautiful children — Sierra, Megan, Lindsey, Hunter and Gage. Unfortunately, three of the kids have dilated cardiomyopathy, a life-threatening heart disease in which the heart becomes enlarged and stretched, causing it to be weak and reducing its ability to pump blood effectively.
As treatment, each of the three affected children — Sierra, Lindsey and Gage — have received heart transplants at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. Sierra has had two transplants — her first in 2006, and a replacement in 2015. The other two children, Megan and Hunter, also have markers for the disease, and are undergoing observation as their hearts continue to develop.
