“I approach medical care with a focus on you, as an expectant mother, and on your growing child.”
I approach medical care with a focus on you as an individual, as an expectant mother, and on your growing child. I tailor care to your personal health issues and risks. Effective health care is not simply reacting to a problem when it occurs. It's about taking steps to help prevent medical issues from developing or deteriorating, and protecting what is most important: your and your baby's health. I believe Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford is the very best place to deliver a baby, as we have the ability to provide high-level, thoughtful, careful care, in a warm, supportive setting, and to take care of all possibilities with seamless ease. This is the hallmark of our hospital, and the reason I'm so proud to be part of this institution.
Many years ago, as a third-year medical student, I wandered into labor and delivery one night while on a different clinical rotation. I think it was fate. It was about 2:30 in the morning, and there was this very nice nurse there. She informed me they were about to perform an emergency cesarean delivery for a patient and that I could stand in a corner of the operating room and just watch. My experience to that point was mostly with chronic illness and surgery. What I remember — what came forth that night, was not a liver or a gall bladder, but a human being. This emergence of a baby into the world struck me on a profoundly emotional level. Being able to make a difference for mothers who've had a high-risk pregnancy — right away I knew this was my calling.
