My Approach

My approach to care is rooted in partnership, collaboration, and teamwork. Caring for a child with a serious neurologic illness takes a team—including doctors, nurses, therapists, trainees, and, most important, the child’s family.

Parents and caregivers know their child best, and their insights are essential to guiding care. I also believe every member of the care team has something meaningful to contribute. By working together, we can think carefully and creatively, help families feel heard, and ensure that each child is seen as a whole person.

As a pediatric neurocritical care and stroke neurologist, I often meet families during moments of fear, uncertainty, and urgent decision-making. It is a tremendous honor to be trusted during such vulnerable times. I am also proud to support children and families through recovery after acute brain injury, when children often show remarkable resilience and progress.

I was drawn to pediatric neurocritical care because it requires deep thinking about the brain in the context of the whole body. I find that complexity both challenging and rewarding.
