“I am most proud when family and patients feel well cared for.”
First and foremost I try to listen to the family and patient. I help them understand their medical condition and make informed choices regarding care. I am most proud when families and patients feel well cared for and are able to achieve their health goals. It is very rewarding to see many of my patients with chronic neurologic conditions graduate from high school and attend college, due to the combination of their own fortitude and my care.
The most memorable moment was when a young man who was my patient for ten years, gave me a hug at our last clinic visit before his transition to adult neurology. Even though he still has seizures, the way he looks at the world has changed. He has a better understanding of himself and can feel self-confident despite his disability. To me that is what the hug represents. His ability to live as well as he can is the true success for me.
