TSC is a disorder in which a genetic abnormality causes growths to form in organ systems throughout the body, including the brain, kidney, eyes, skin, heart and lungs. These noncancerous growths can create serious health issues by interfering with the function of these organs. In children, symptoms can often include intellectual disability, seizures, epilepsy and developmental delay.
Because TSC is a complex disease with so many potential symptoms, its diagnosis and treatment requires specialized expertise. We are home to a multidisciplinary team of experts who have the experience needed to develop and implement the best possible care plan for your child, including managing mTOR inhibitors, one of the most effective treatments for TSC. Led by Brenda Porter, MD, this team includes world-class neurologists, nephrologists, ophthalmologists, dermatologists and pulmonologists. These specialists will work together with each other and with the family to reach the best possible outcome.
We are proud to be one of only two official TSC Alliance–recognized clinics in Northern California. We are also part of the Tuberous Sclerosis Research Alliance, a coalition of centers around the country that are leading the charge in the research and treatment of the disease.
Finally, because of our affiliation with Stanford Health Care, patients can expect continuity of care as they transition into adulthood.
