"Each child is unique; I recognize that there’s no one-size-fits-all treatment."
Losing a high school friend to childhood cancer profoundly influenced my decision to pursue medicine, specifically in pediatrics. That loss influenced my pediatric care approach, inspiring me to bring empathy and a commitment to addressing the emotional well-being of both the child and their family alongside symptom treatment.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is engaging with patients and building lasting relationships with their entire families, including grandparents. What’s even more amazing is when families return with their second or third child, and even cousins start coming to see me, expanding the circle. You really get to understand the dynamics of the family unit and how that influences the child’s health and overall quality of life. Each child is unique; I recognize that there’s no one-size-fits-all treatment. Sometimes, adjustments are necessary to tailor the care to meet the specific needs of each patient and their family.
I want families to feel comfortable coming to me. I think it’s really helpful to have somebody who knows you and everything that you’re going through, who will support you without judgment.
